How to Create Your Own Virtual Desktop
Virtual desktops are a great way to work on your computer in an isolated, secure environment or to access your familiar workspace from anywhere in the world.
However, DaaS services that provide this option are generally business-oriented, and they are too expensive and complex for home use. This problem can be solved with the Shells service, which allows you to set up your own desktop in literally five minutes and without outrageous costs.
How to Set Everything Up
I’m not exaggerating when I say that Shells allows you to set up a desktop in five minutes. All you need to do is, after registering, go to the Your Shells section and click the Add a New Shell button.
Next, select and pay for one of the server options. The cheapest plan costs $4.95 per month with monthly payment. You can also pay with crypto if you prefer.
The difference between plans is only in the specifications of the virtual server and the number of hours of access per month.
The last step is to choose which operating system will be installed on your desktop. You can reinstall the OS if needed. Among the available options, you’ll find all kinds of Windows and Linux systems.
If you’re an experienced user, you can switch the admin panel to advanced mode. This will allow you to create SSH keys, change the server’s geo-location, get a white IP, and access a couple of other features.
Accessing Your Desktop
Since you have a full desktop on a remote server, you can connect to it through a browser or via RDP.
With the operating system, you can do everything you would do on a regular computer. It’s your full-fledged PC for the duration of using the service.
