The MIST utility makes it easy to download the required version of the operating system. Once you launch the tool, you’ll see two tabs:
- Firmwares — for downloading files in IPSW format, which can be used to install macOS via tools like Apple Configurator.
- Installers — for downloading a full installer to upgrade or downgrade the operating system.
With Firmware, you can either start the download directly or simply get a direct link to the file. For installers, you can download the file or create a bootable disk right away.
Additionally, the utility allows you to:
- Enable the display of beta versions,
- Hide versions of macOS unsupported by your computer,
- Export the list to a JSON file.
