To avoid the latter problem, you can install the Under New Management extension, which allows you to monitor developer changes. It is available for Google Chrome and Firefox browsers, with open-source code.
When such a change occurs, you will receive a corresponding notification.
From it, you can understand what exactly has changed and then make your own decision about the subsequent necessity of the problematic extension.
