# How to Open Windows in the Desired Workspace in GNOME

Workspaces make it easy to separate work tasks from personal ones. Yet the problem often arises that applications still open wherever they please.  
On Linux with the GNOME shell, this task can be solved with the [**Auto Move Windows**](https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/16/auto-move-windows/) utility.

After installing it, you simply create a new rule for any application and specify the workspace number in which it should start. Now you won’t need to manually arrange windows every time.
