NeatShift is a utility for creating symbolic links through a user-friendly interface. It moves files while preserving their original path. It also supports backups and link viewing.
Symbolic links are like shortcuts, but more powerful. You can move a file or an entire folder to any convenient location while keeping the original path as a symbolic link. This way, applications will still recognize the files at their old location as if nothing has changed.
However, creating such links usually requires working with the command line, which isn’t very convenient. If you, like me, prefer using a graphical interface, try NeatShift.
Although the app doesn’t require installation, you will still need administrator rights. Once launched, you only need to do one simple thing: add files or folders to the app and specify the destination folder.

If you're using NeatShift for the first time, it will ask which backup method you prefer:
- App-based backup only.
- System restore point only.
- Both options at once.

Thanks to this, if anything goes wrong, you can always revert the changes through the Backup menu. If everything works fine, clicking Continue will move the file to the specified location while creating a symbolic link for it. You can view all created symbolic links in the View Links menu.
Additionally, NeatShift has a built-in file viewer. However, I can’t really say it’s particularly useful.
