How to safely share sensitive information
From time to time, I find myself having to give someone my login/password for a Netflix account, share a token in a text file, or something similar that shouldn't be shared openly.
Ideally, I would like to share such data through a password manager that has this feature built in. However, what are the chances that your conversation partner has the same password manager installed? You can resolve this situation by using specialized services like Password Pusher, which help secure the transmission of sensitive data.
When you visit the site, you have three options for sending data, depending on the type of data: password, files, or links.
Regardless of the type of data, you need to upload it to the service and then configure additional security parameters:
- Expiry time for link access — either by days or by the number of views, depending on what comes first.
- Activate protection against link scanners.
- Activate data deletion immediately after access.
- Protect access with a passphrase.
After that, you will receive a link that you can send to your conversation partner, and they will be able to access the hidden data behind it. In the Dashboard section, you can view which data was accessed and when.
Password Pusher is open-source, and you can deploy a similar service on your own server, which will further reduce concerns about the leakage of important data.
