VinylReleases alerts you to new vinyl releases, lets you subscribe to artists or keywords, and delivers push notifications.
To get a new digital release from your favourite artist, you don’t need to do anything—streaming platforms will automatically recommend it. With physical releases, however, the process is not so simple. You have to keep an eye on the release date yourself, which is especially tough for vinyl.
You can solve this issue with the iOS app VinylReleases, whose sole purpose is to inform you when a new album drops.
Setting up a subscription
Open the Releases tab and tap Set up Subscription. Create a subscription for an artist. On the first attempt, the app will prompt you to import your existing subscriptions from Apple Music or Discogs. This import option can later be found in Settings.
Adding artists
The standard way to add artists is via the search on the Subscriptions tab.
Just type the artist’s name and tap the + button to add them to your watch list.
Push notifications
If you wish, you can enable push notifications for new releases from the artists you’re following.
Subscriptions beyond artists
You can subscribe not only to an artist but also to specific keyword(s). This is handy if you want to be alerted to releases that contain a particular theme, label, or format.
Viewing new releases
- On the Releases → Subscriptions tab, you’ll see information about new releases from the artists you’re tracking.
- On the All tab, the same information is shown for releases from all tracked artists.
Each release entry includes a brief description and a link to the store where you can buy it. Tapping the link opens the online store’s page for the record.
